Early Modern and Renaissance Italy 2023/24

What were the political, religious, social, economic and cultural characteristics of the Italian peninsula in the Renaissance? What was the role of the Peninsula and its many states on the international chessboard? What were the processes and events that marked the period?
By analysing the main themes of early modern history, with particular attention to the development of Italian societies in a global context, the course will attempt to answer these and other questions.
The course will aim to analyse the various aspects of Italian political, social, economic and religious development between 1450 and 1650.
