The course focuses on different conceptions and practices of development as instanciated by the varying committment of China in Africa. The main rationale behind the course is to understand the changing involvement of Chinese governmental and non-governmental actors in Africa from a host of different points of view: economic, political, social, and cultural. The ideas is that of a “triangle” of sorts between economy, culture, and politics, where each element influences the other two at different times and in different ways.
