The course aims to provide in-depth knowledge of the dynamics of international migration and local migration policies; role of microfinance for the local development, and the linkages between international migration, microfinance and processes of local development, taking into account the analytical frameworks adopted by contemporary studies on international migration, microfinance and development.
Second part of the course present the tools of microfinance – a market-based approach for leveraging community assets towards social and economic inclusion - and then discuss whether it can be right approach, if applied properly, to generate positive economic outcomes at local level, such as employment generation, increase in income, consumption and assets ownership etc.
