Dear Students,

we have received an interesting proposal from Miriam, a second year student of Local Development who is currently doing her internship at Fondazione SAFE – an Italian no-profit organisation which designs and implements project in the security and defence sector in Italy and Europe.

Since February 2021, SAFE is in charge of the management of an ex-military base at Monte Calvarina (Verona area) and starting from July, they will conduct so called HEAT courses (Hostile Environment Awareness Trainings) there.

The aim of this training is to prepare staff of multi-national companies, NGO employees, researchers or journalists who travel politically sensitive countries (e. g. being able to identify risks, navigate by reading maps/GPS signals, first aid, negotiating, dealing with hostage taking etc.). The courses are based on scenario exercises which are played through by the participants. You can see more information on the course here: https://heat-training.it/en/

They are looking for participants for the courses from 12 – 16 July 2021 (ITA/ENG), 6 – 10 September 2021 (ITA), 20 – 24 September 2021 (ITA). Please find attached the presentation on the HEAT course with all the details.

Best regards,
Carlotta
