This course unite provides a structured training to develop transversal skills necessary for conducting research in the field of local development. It is designed to equip students with theoretical, methodological and practical competencies in three core areas:
1. Fieldwork research and practice
2. Textual data analysis, and
3. Academic writing.

Laboratory Textual Analysis with Iramuteq 2024-2025

The laboratory aims to offer a guide for the analysis and interpretation of textual data (both produced for research purposes, such as interviews, answers to open-ended questions, and spontaneously produced data such as documents, social media posts) with the support of the Iramuteq software.

Lab Outline:

  1. Introduction to Automatic Textual Data Analysis:

    • Understanding textual data and how they can quantitatively analysed.
    • Installation guide for the Iramuteq R interface on your computer.

  2. First Steps in Automatic Text Analysis: Preparing the Corpus and Exploring Data with Iramuteq:

    • Hands-on experience in preparing a corpus for analysis based on your research purposes.
    • Exploring data using Iramuteq to gain valuable insights.

  3. Advanced Text Analysis with Iramuteq:

    • Topic detection and exploration using Iramuteq.
    • Mapping content in relation to variables (i.e., text attributes).
