The course is titled "The Quest for Freedom in English Poetry, from Romanticism to Modernism". It focuses on the genre of poetry, seen through a selection of masterpieces belonging to this period. The fundamental theme is the search for freedom in all its meanings: the search for the spirit in the Romantics (Wordsworth, Byron, Shelley, Keats), the search for identity and dialogue in Browning and Tennyson, and the search for free meaning in T.S. Eliot. Through close reading of the texts, placed in their historical and cultural context, the course will outline the cultural and literary changes that these works reflect, offering students a solid education in the literature of various periods.
